Sanchaung : my new home

I am really happy to start this blog with my favorite area in Yangon and my new home : Sanchaung!

I have been living there for 6 months. First, in the northern part of the neighborhood, on Hin Tha Da street, and now on the famous Sanchaung street. What I like about it is the lively neighborhood spirit. It is very pleasant to walk around and very convenient to live. I can find everything I need: grossery shops, beauty salons, tailors, tons of restaurant, market full of fruits and vegetables shops, my yoga class .... I always come across a good surprise!  It is a great place to discover the Yangon life!
I am not the only one appreciating the neighborhood, its easy life makes Sanchaung a sought-after neighborhood for expats.

My favorite moment of the day is when I am coming back from work, just before the sunset. I love walking in my street and seeing families and friends going out for dinner, children playing in the street, street vendors...

If you are travelling in Myanmar and want to get the local atmosphere, come have a walk in Sanchaung, enjoy a massage or a pedicure, try local food in a teashop or a beer station, buy some delicious fruits in the market and go to watch the sunset in Atlas bar!

My favorite places to eat:

For Myanmar food:
Win star. Sanchaung street is full of tea shops and beers stations. Win star has become an institution!
Agape Kachin Restaurant .It serves very good Kachin food.
On Kyaunt taw street, there is a very good noodles shop just beside the pagoda. They make amazing tofu noodles.

Others:
Rough Cut. One of my favorite place in Yangon to hang out. They have very good food, coffee and Fresh Juices. They also regularly organize events.
Tokyo coffee opened few months ago. They have very good Japanese coffee and food.
Dibar for Italian food.
La vie en Rose for cakes. I love their cheese cake!
Pizza factory for a good pizza in a nice atmosphere.
Terminal 5 for drinks.
Corner bar for good burgers and beers.
Atlas for a nice cocktail watching the sunset.
Xiao Long Bao for amazing Dim Sum.

My favorite shops :

One of the challenge I had when I moved in Yangon, was furnishing my apartment. No IKEA around to make my life easy... After days of research, we found very helpful addresses :
- Spirit on Bagayar is the busiest shop I never went to. If you have the patience to go around, you can find almost eveything you need!
- AZ made very nice wooden furniture for us.
- My last discovery is a rattan shop on Thawtar street.

Sanchaung is full of of beauty salons and massage places. Read my interview of Ayar, owner of Beauty and Face my favorite beauty salon in town.
